When Everything Fell Into Place

The career in the industry she had known since childhood might have started as a coincidence, but there is no doubt that our new colleague Malin Pettersen found the right career.

Malin Pettersen was introduced to the industry at an early age through her father, who worked at McGregor as a Technical Crane Advisor. As a child, she occasionally accompanied him to work, where he would often say, “Maybe this will be your job one day.” Years later, those words proved more accurate than either of them could have imagined.

After completing a Bachelor's degree in Marketing Management, spending a semester abroad in Brisbane, Australia, and earning a Master's degree in International Business, Malin began her career coordinating offshore crane personnel at NOV. Today, she has joined OffshoreCrew as Crew & Logistics Coordinator.

We sat down with Malin to learn more about her background, career path, and what attracted her to the industry.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

– My name is Malin Pettersen, and I’m originally from Evje in Southern Norway. I have lived in Kristiansand for the past twelve years, which is where I consider home today.

How did you find your way into this industry?

– Like many people, I found it difficult to decide what I wanted to do. I knew I wasn’t particularly drawn to heavily mathematics-focused studies, but I enjoyed the creative side of business. That led me to pursue a degree in Marketing Management.

– I really enjoyed my studies and had the opportunity to spend a semester abroad in Brisbane, Australia. It was an incredibly valuable experience. After completing my bachelor's degree, I later pursued a Master's degree in International Business.

Upon graduating, Malin joined NOV, where she worked with the planning and coordination of offshore crane personnel.

A personal connection to the industry

– My father worked at McGregor and was always a great role model for me. I occasionally accompanied him to work when I was young, and although I didn’t think much of it at the time, those experiences clearly left an impression.

One memory in particular stands out.

– He would point to the young women working in administration and say, “Maybe this will be your job one day.” When I later joined the industry myself and, by coincidence, ended up working with the planning and coordination of crane operators, it struck me how special that was. It felt as though I had found the place where I belonged. I think he would have been both proud and surprised.

What do you enjoy most about this type of work?

– The thing I enjoy most is that no two days are the same. There is always something happening, and you often need to find solutions quickly. At the same time, I feel that my work makes a meaningful contribution. You are part of something larger, and you know that what you do helps operations run smoothly.

– I enjoy the combination of people, logistics, and coordination. There are many moving parts, and it is rewarding when everything comes together.

What are you looking forward to most at OffshoreCrew?

– I’m looking forward to learning more and getting to know my colleagues, clients, and personnel. Even though I already have experience in the industry, there is always something new to learn, and I find that exciting.

What are your goals going forward?

– I’m quite ambitious and always want to improve in what I do. I hope to continue developing my skills, take on greater responsibilities over time, and contribute positively to the team. At the same time, I want to be someone people enjoy working with and can rely on.

After her first weeks at OffshoreCrew, Malin has already formed a positive impression.

– Everything has exceeded my expectations so far. I’ve been made to feel very welcome, and I’m excited about what lies ahead.

We are delighted to welcome Malin to OffshoreCrew and look forward to the journey ahead.
